“Europe is … a powerful economic union and it is only natural that they want to be independent and … sovereign in the field of defense and security,” Putin journalists in Paris where world leaders gathered to mark the centenary of the end of WWI.
The idea is so President Putin can invade Europe rather easily after breaking up NATO.
President Trump’s repeated attacks on NATO are making President Putin’s job a whole lot easier. President Trump is deeply misguided, historically ignorant, strategically simpleminded and unwisely averse to a rule-based global system where a united Europe serves as a strong pillar against Russian nefarious intentions.
After WWII, America invested heavily in the success of a united and peaceful Europe starting with the implementation of the Marshall Plan. Those strategic investments on many fronts, after WWII, handsomely paid off in the form of peace on the European continent, and with Europe becoming America’s most reliable trading partner that helped America spread the global economic freedom.
President Trump just does not understand the importance of a free, peaceful and united Europe. “The European Union, of course, was set up to take advantage of the United States, to attack our piggy bank,” the president explained on June 28, 2018 at a rally in Fargo, North Dakota. He cited as evidence inflated U.S. trade deficit figures—as if the choice by American consumers to purchase more from Europeans than vice-versa proved unfair competition.
President Trump must learn from our history before he is doomed to repeat it into darkness and communist Russian subversion.
