Trump shuts down government, for third time in 2018

Republicans have been carrying Trump’s water and now with this third shutdown during Christmas time, there is just no obvious way out of this self-made mess.

President Trump wants $5 billion for his stupid border wall and wants the American taxpayers to pay the bill now that his campaign promise of making Mexican government has failed to materialize.

It is President Trump’s shutdown because we have this tape from December 11th Oval Office meeting to prove that Trump is fully responsible for this unnecessary shutdown.

The shutdown will have relatively minor economic impact due to holidays season, but what happens if this continues beyond January 1st?

The Republican-controlled House has already passed a measure that included $5 billion for border security. That bill simply cannot get the 60 votes needed in the Senate to override a filibuster because Republicans hold just 51 seats, and Democratic senators won’t vote for funding a wall.

So, what is the way out of this mess where Trump demands his vanity wall funding and Democrats don’t want to fund it?

The only viable scenario is where the Democrat majority in the House, after January 3rd, will vote to open the government – without funding for the wall – effectively daring the president to veto that bill. If he vetoes, then without a doubt Senate Republicans will be under great political pressure to override the presidential veto with 53 Republicans, who will be joined by 7 Democrat Senators voting to reopen the government while handing President Trump a humiliating defeat. If the president signs the bill, it will make him swallow his ego and the bill will be no different than before, except all this “toddler tantrums” by the president to create chaos.

Welcome to 2019 everybody. It will be worse than 2017 and 2018 combined.
